*BASK++ was born at Albigowa State Stud in Poland on February 9, 1956. His
sire line traces to Kuhailan-Haifi, the desertbred stallion imported to
Poland 1931; his dam line to Mlecha, the desertbred mare imported to Poland
in 1845. BASK spent the early years of his career as a race horse, beginning
at age two and retiring from the track at age six. He was not considered a
particularly impressive race horse; out of 40 starts, he placed first eight
times, second seven times, and was third seven times. *BASK's career might
have ended after he left the track, but shortly afterwards he was discovered
by Dr. LaCroix and then imported to the US. BASK made the transatlantic
voyage by ship in 1963 with other notables such as *NABORR, enduring at
least 10 days without food or water and losing 100 pounds during the
journey.
*BASK's show career began in 1964. His list of wins is long and formidable,
and includes several US national and reserve champion titles. During his
lifetime, BASK sired 1,045 purebred foals, among which were 495 champions,
197 National winners, and 293 producers of National winners He died at home
at Lasma in Scottsdale on July 24, 1979. His stall still remains empty.
